Located in the University of Washington, this museum provides patrons with a wide array of historic and prehistoric relics, and it’s all within easy reach of our hotel near SeaTac Airport.

The museum has among its permanent exhibits a selection of cultural and artistic items from the region’s native peoples, an ethnobotanical garden with over one hundred different species of plant, and several dinosaur skeletons. Seattle is spotted with art museums of every flavor, but if you only visit one of them, you should make it the Seattle Art Museum.  A must-see within reach of our hotel near the SeaTac Airport, this is the place to be to immerse yourself in the full spectrum of the artistic world.

The experience begins with the famous “Hammering Man” that towers over visitors near the museum’s entrance.  After passing under his patient labors, you are questing through a multi-hued cascade of cultural expression; see traditional work from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and our own native peoples, then sample the bold new creations of the modern world.  Afterward, leave the museum itself to stroll through Olympic Sculpture Park, where you will be accompanied by a vast array of fascinating outdoor pieces.

Evening Farmers Market on Pike Place

The Pike Place Market has been a popular destination for tourists and residents of the Emerald City alike, offering quality local food, arts, crafts, gifts, and other items. This summer, the fun lasts even longer with the help of the Evening Farmers Market. Every Wednesday from June 1st to October 12th, you’ll be able to purchase the wares of over a dozen farmers between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm. There’s fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, specialty products, and even live entertainment. Reserve a seat for At the Table Culinary Adventures, where some of Seattle’s finest chefs will prepare seasonal fare to highlight the market’s produce. Bring the kids down for Family Fun Nights on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, where you can enjoy arts and crafts, children’s books, and hands-on cooking demonstrations.

The Book-It Repertory Theater is one of the Seattle theatre community’s most distinct treasures. Every season, it puts out a full list of world-premiere shows, each one adapted from either classic or contemporary works of literature. Their scripts utilize dialogue to preserve the original narrative voice of the novel, a trademarked style dubbed the Book-It Style®. Using this style, they have produced over a hundred original shows, which have included the likes of I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Don Quixote, Great Expectations, Rebecca, and more.

Book-It’s productions have attracted attention on a national level, with numerous shows going on to productions across the country. The company has also been honored by numerous prestigious groups, earning the Mayor’s Arts Award, the Governor’s Arts Award, and others.

Seattle Ice Cream Festival

Everybody loves ice cream! If you need a cool way to beat the heat during your stay at our Tukwila hotel, consider indulging yourself on this old favorite at the Seattle Ice Cream Festival. It all goes down on Chophouse Row in Seattle’s colorful Capitol Hill neighborhood, about thirty minutes up north from the SeaTac Airport. Here, visitors will be able to sample the frosty wares of a dozen of the Emerald City’s most celebrated ice cream makers, including Molly Moon’s, Full Tilt, Sweet Bumpas, and Kurt Farm Shop. You will also be able to purchase your favorite flavors to take home.

The 2016 Seattle Ice Cream Festival marks the very first of what shall, with any luck, become an annual tradition. It is scheduled to start at noon and run until 5:00 pm on May 22nd, the first day of ice cream season. Admission is free to the public. 45th Annual Northwest Folklife Festival

The Northwest Folklife Festival is one of the largest free festivals of its kind in the country. Every year since 1972, this four-day event has served as a celebration of the music, dance, storytelling, and arts of the Pacific Northwest. Thousands of artists will be present to show off their best crafts, foods, performances, and workshops. There is even a family-friendly “Discovery Zone” where kids and parents alike can learn more about the area’s art, and even try their hand at producing art of their own.

The cultural focus of the 2016 festival is “The Power of the Human Voice through Song”. Experience the power of a wide variety of regional singers, including choirs, doo-wop groups, barbershop quartets, and even children’s choruses.

The 16th Annual Backyard Wildlife Festival

There is a whole world of wildlife right in our own backyards, and the Backyard Wildlife Festival is Tukwila’s way of celebrating this wildlife. Join in the fun for a day of presentations from local nature and gardening experts, educational exhibitions, guided tours, art shows, art and crafts vendors, and plant sales. This year’s featured speakers include Robin Haglund from the garden coaching firm Garden Mentors, and horticulturist and author Marianne Binetti.

If you have kids with you, they’ll enjoy the Kids’ Garden Party area. Here they can partake of child-friendly activities, make their own pinecone birdfeeders, and experience the Bubbleman from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

The Backyard Wildlife Festival is scheduled for the second Saturday in May. This year’s event will take place from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. You can find it at the Tukwila Community Center, not far from our hotel in Tukwila. Admission is free to the public. If you’re fascinated by the art of a wide variety of international cultures, don’t miss the chance to experience ArtXchange. This is a two-thousand square foot art gallery, dedicated to showcasing works of contemporary art for the purpose of inspiring exploration of different cultures and expand the global community. Here, you can expect to see paintings, sculptures, and mixed-media installations, as well as live performances like poetry readings, dances, and art workshops.There are new exhibits and events added all the time, so there’s no shortage of innovation to experience at ArtXchange!

You can find ArtXchange up north from our hotel in Tukwila, in Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square district. The gallery opens at 11:00 am and closes at 5:30 pm every day from Tuesday to Saturday. If you go on the first Thursday of the month, you can take advantage of the extended hours until 8:00 pm as part of the monthly Pioneer Square Artwalk.
