The Book-It Repertory Theater is one of the Seattle theatre community’s most distinct treasures. Every season, it puts out a full list of world-premiere shows, each one adapted from either classic or contemporary works of literature. Their scripts utilize dialogue to preserve the original narrative voice of the novel, a trademarked style dubbed the Book-It Style®. Using this style, they have produced over a hundred original shows, which have included the likes of I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Don Quixote, Great Expectations, Rebecca, and more.

Everybody loves ice cream! If you need a cool way to beat the heat during your stay at our Tukwila hotel, consider indulging yourself on this old favorite at the Seattle Ice Cream Festival. It all goes down on Chophouse Row in Seattle’s colorful Capitol Hill neighborhood, about thirty minutes up north from the SeaTac Airport. Here, visitors will be able to sample the frosty wares of a dozen of the Emerald City’s most celebrated ice cream makers, including Molly Moon’s, Full Tilt, Sweet Bumpas, and Kurt Farm Shop. You will also be able to purchase your favorite flavors to take home.
The 2016 Seattle Ice Cream Festival marks the very first of what shall, with any luck, become an annual tradition. It is scheduled to start at noon and run until 5:00 pm on May 22nd, the first day of ice cream season. Admission is free to the public. The Northwest Folklife Festival is one of the largest free festivals of its kind in the country. Every year since 1972, this four-day event has served as a celebration of the music, dance, storytelling, and arts of the Pacific Northwest. Thousands of artists will be present to show off their best crafts, foods, performances, and workshops. There is even a family-friendly “Discovery Zone” where kids and parents alike can learn more about the area’s art, and even try their hand at producing art of their own.
The cultural focus of the 2016 festival is “The Power of the Human Voice through Song”. Experience the power of a wide variety of regional singers, including choirs, doo-wop groups, barbershop quartets, and even children’s choruses.
You can find the 45th Annual Northwest Folklife Festival at Seattle’s famous Seattle Center, up north from our hotel in Tukwila. This year’s event is scheduled from May 27th through May 30th. There is a whole world of wildlife right in our own backyards, and the Backyard Wildlife Festival is Tukwila’s way of celebrating this wildlife. Join in the fun for a day of presentations from local nature and gardening experts, educational exhibitions, guided tours, art shows, art and crafts vendors, and plant sales. This year’s featured speakers include Robin Haglund from the garden coaching firm Garden Mentors, and horticulturist and author Marianne Binetti.

You can find ArtXchange up north from our hotel in Tukwila, in Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square district. The gallery opens at 11:00 am and closes at 5:30 pm every day from Tuesday to Saturday. If you go on the first Thursday of the month, you can take advantage of the extended hours until 8:00 pm as part of the monthly Pioneer Square Artwalk.
